Summer holidays Part 1

Obon is one of the biggest reunion holidays in Japan besides the New Year holiday. This year my husband`s family decided to gather in Matsumoto instead of my in-law`s place.

The kids came from Yokohama while grandpa and grandma travelled from Osaka.

Shun is the youngest among the cousins and was pampered by all. Unappreciative of the attention showered on him, he was sort of cranky when he saw 10 unfamiliar faces in our house after his morning nap.

Despite many failed attempts to play with him, the elder kids tried all ways and means to get closer to him.

Here are the kids at the hot spring inn during dinner time. Shun was entertained by his cousins while the adults enjoyed dinner. The boys called him `shacho-san` which means Boss. The boys kept asking him `Shacho san are you hungry?` `Are you feeling comfortable?` They really made me laugh. Shun was their boss that night.

This was the table setting for dinner at the inn. 13 of us including Shun. The inn was quite a disappointment despite good reviews about the food and all in a local magazine. The food was not fantastic. The interiors looked old. The hot spring bath was so-so. However, overall we had a great time as there aren`t many chances to gather like this.
