Plum Blossoms

The plum trees ("ume") at Matsumoto castle have started to show their flowers. We are looking forward to a full bloom this weekend.

The plum tree is associated with the arrival of spring, because plum blossoms are some of the first blooms in the year.

There are basically two colours of plum blossoms, white and dark pink.


It was difficult for me to differentiate between cherry and plum blossoms as they look almost the same.

However, if you go near a plum tree, u can recongnise it by a strong fragrance from the flower.
